#89 Insolvency as an opportunity? The remarkable transformation of CHRONEXT!

This episode was recorded in German.

Saving a company: how Frederike Knop led CHRONEXT through the crisis

In today's business world, a crisis can hit faster than most entrepreneurs expect. Anyone who fails to act in time during turbulent periods risks losing their company. But what does it take not just to survive a crisis, but to come out stronger? Frederike Knop, Managing Director of CHRONEXT, shares her experience from a demanding restructuring in our podcast and shows what matters when a company is on the brink.

Crisis as a turning point: leadership in difficult times

Insolvency is a word many entrepreneurs dread. But for Frederike Knop, it wasn't the end, it was the start of a radical fresh start. She took responsibility, made bold decisions and faced reality instead of waiting problems out. Her approach: honesty, speed and focus on what matters. Rather than panicking, she analyzed the causes of the crisis without mercy. High costs, overly complex processes and too much inventory had put CHRONEXT in a tough spot. Instead of burying her head in the sand, she looked for solutions that would make the company fit for the future.

Radical decisions, clear strategy

Instead of financing expensive inventory, CHRONEXT switched to a consignment model in which watches are only purchased once a buyer has been found. That change not only reduced tied-up capital, it made the business far more flexible. Logistics and customer service saw deep changes as well. Unnecessary processes were cut, locations optimized and the focus on the digital business model sharpened even further. "We consistently questioned everything that didn't contribute directly to the core of our business," says Frederike Knop.

Leadership means taking responsibility

Difficult times show who can really lead. Frederike Knop made decisions that weren't always easy, but she stayed transparent and took responsibility. What stands out most is how she handled her team: she communicated openly, brought employees along on the journey and built strong cohesion during the company's hardest phase. Her advice to other leaders: set your ego aside, get advice from experts and don't delay decisions out of fear. The earlier you act, the more options you have.

A fresh start with a clear vision

Today CHRONEXT is back on track. With a new strategic direction, streamlined processes and a clear focus on the customer, the company has proven that a crisis can also be an opportunity for growth. The brand is intact, the team is highly motivated and the luxury watch market still offers plenty of potential.
